SNAP/Hingham Rec Center Yoga – Spring 2024

SNAP/Hingham Rec Center

Yoga – Spring 2024

SNAP is pleased to offer a Yoga program for students with special needs.  This program is offered to individuals who receive special education services from middle school onward.  The program will take place on Fridays at the Hingham Rec Center and will be taught by Serena Finocchio.  Serena focuses on breath, body, and mind connection and believes breathing can help us find a sense of peace and calmness inside of us. She wants you to enjoy your yoga practice with her and leave your yoga mat feeling relaxed. She is a RYT-500 and holds many other yoga certifications. Her favorite place to be is at the beach, and she loves all animals.

Dates:   May 3, 10, 31; & June 7, 14

Time:  4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Location:  Hingham Rec Center, 220 Central St., Hingham

The program will be limited to 8 participants.

The cost of the program is $12/session, and it is suggested that participants attend as many sessions as possible to receive the most benefit from the program.

Students should wear comfortable clothing such as sweatpants and a t-shirt (no jeans).  Sneakers should be easy to remove.

This class is designed specifically to benefit students with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and other developmental delays.   All levels of ability are welcome.  Each class follows the same outline with routines coordinated with the individual’s level of development.  Students will participate in five essential yoga practices:  music, breathing practices, cleansing practices, body postures and deep relaxation.  These practices are designed to strengthen and stretch the entire musculoskeletal system, balance the nervous system, increase breathing efficiency, improve body awareness, improve communication skills, increase each student’s ability to self-regulate, and of course provide a relaxing and engaging experience.

Registration:  This program is open to individuals receiving special education services from middle school onward.  Registration information and required forms will be available at:  www.southshoresnap.com
